Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for an advanced audio copy.

I was excited to jump into this book. I heard a lot of good things before going into it that had me really anticipating a good summer mystery. Unfortunately, Bad Summer People was a disappointment for me.

The story starts out interesting with a body being found in the town of Salcombe located on Fire Island. Then it goes to the beginning of the summer and follows a group of the worst people. It was all entitled rich people who have no redeeming qualities.

There are affairs, theft, and just annoying people. I understand that it is supposed to be satire but I could not get behind any character. I found myself to be bored throughout the majority of the story. When the murder finally happened there was no shock value to who committed it.

I wanted a great summer read but that’s not what I got from Bad Summer People. As it is now I have a hard time recommending it.

Final score 2/5
