Book Review: The Guest List

Book: The Guest List

Author: Lucy Foley

Kristen’s review:

I will admit it did take me a minute to get into this book. It felt slow for a while with not much happening….but it absolutely redeemed itself in the second half. The build up and reveals at the end were jawdropping at times.

Brian’s Review:

What do you get when you have a great premise, interesting characters, a great setting, great chapter design, and a book that is 90% about nothing? You get The Guest List.

I was super excited about this book after reading the summary. A murder mystery in a remote location during a wedding was intriguing. Sadly all you get is a bunch of setup for a reveal that was ultimately too convenient. It was definitely a surprising reveal but there was just too much that fit together too easily and I felt it was not earned with how long the book took to get to it.

The Guest List left me wanting more from every aspect of it. It was too promising to be done in this way. I don’t regret my time with the book but I also don’t recommend it.
